Comox Lake

Beautiful Comox Lake in Cumberland and Courtenay BC. It is the water reservoir for the Courtenay area. These Pictures are taken from the Cumberland side. They have a wonderful campsite with everything you could possibly need in all the buildings nearby. I do not have a picture here but they even have a boat ramp and dock. There is plenty of trails with lots of great nature to see. There is also many historical parts of the site such the big Comox Lake rock pictured and of course Albert (Ginger) Goodwin.

Then there is the Courtenay side of the lake. Which has the BC Power Authorities Hydro Dam separating it from Puntledge River and is also part of the Courtenay water works that supplies most of the town with fresh drinking water.

The Dam was built in 1912 then further expanded and updated in 1953, 55, and 1982. It gives Hydro to a large portion of land and is greatly needed by the Valley. They have many nice fishing spots on this side of the lake, bathrooms, picnic area, and historical signs near the dam and the Courtenay Fish and Game Club not far away. Parts of the lake dry up at times showing a vast network of old train tracks and left over wooden posts from bridges that have been lost in time among the many logs floating in the water.

The partially dry wetlands also bring many types birds that come to feed on the snails. You can always hear the drumming of a woodpecker nearby. Near the dam site you will find directions to many different hiking trails, they all have a difficulty level and are worth the walk. Wildlife safety is a must due to the large amount of predatory animals so be prepared and animal aware.
